Fargo with Chris Rock

My latest binge watch was the latest season of the Fargo series. So compelling. How cool, to tell the story of multiple generations of crime families from different backgrounds- Jewish, Irish, Italian, Black. You do not always see that all in one show.

This was a particularly strong performance for Chris Rock. I was surprised at his emotional range, and the gravitas he brought to the protagonist role, as head of a local crime syndicate.

The series is just full of surprises. It is not often that narratives are set in the midwest, and setting definitely brings a completely different flavor to everything. It almost makes the murder and mayhem all the more absurd.

You have a lot packed into this particular season- interracial couples, segregated schooling, discriminatory hospitals, trauma from slavery and Indian boarding schools and war, the affect of the psyche being harmed at an early age, power and race, family and power…

You also have a crazy storyline with an ‘angel of death’ nurse and the odd and explosive young leader of the Italian crime syndicate (Jason Schwartman).

It’s a wild, and quite enjoyable, binge watch.
